John Cater awaits the entrance of Jeddak Chan Tomar and Dejah Thoris. Dejah Thoris is being forced to marry the evil Jeddak of Karanthor and John Carter is seemingly helpless to stop it. While devising a plan to set Dejah Thoris free, John Carter is told the origin and history of the region of Karanthor and how many of its inhabitants grew wings.
